The civic award recognizes exceptional citizens who have achieved the highest level of excellence and made significant contributions to the community.

The Order of Ottawa, established in 2012, celebrates outstanding citizens of Ottawa. This prestigious, civic award recognizes exceptional citizens who have achieved the highest level of excellence and achievement in many fields of endeavour, have brought honour and prestige to themselves and made significant contributions to the community that benefit the citizens of Ottawa. 

Kris, with a background in law and accounting, immigrated to Canada from Delhi, India, and made Ottawa his home. He founded Richcraft Group of Companies in 1983, with ambitions to develop communities where families could flourish. Now, Richcraft is celebrating its 40th anniversary, having built over 16,000 homes in Ottawa by a devoted team of more than 200 people and numerous trade partners, and simultaneously giving countless donations to the community. Kris’ dedication to giving back has been unmatched.

With his family and through his company, Kris has partnered with organizations including CHEO, the Ottawa Hospital, Hospice Care Ottawa, Habitat for Humanity, Shepherds of Good Hope, BGC Ottawa, Shenkman Arts Centre, Ottawa Senators Foundation, Carleton University, Algonquin College, Montfort Hospital and more. Kris additionally served on boards including the Indo Canada Chamber of Commerce Advisory Board and The Heart Institute’s Board of Directors.

For Kris, success is a life rich in honesty, integrity, service, community involvement, and spirituality. He sees spirituality as a way of life that includes peace of mind and helping the less fortunate.

With this, alongside his kindness, generosity, and dedication to instilling these values into the next generation, Kris truly encompasses the meaning of being an exceptional citizen.
